Hello!

OUR MISSING ZINE HAS ARRIVED!

Issue #5, due for release on May 1st, 2011 went M.I.A. last year after being sent to the wrong address. We’ve been trying to track down the order of zines ever since, and by some small miracle we can’t believe what arrived at our doorstep today!

If you would like a copy of the loooooooooooong awaited and highly anticipated issue #5 (we don’t like to brag, but think it might be our best one yet), you can grab one now from our store: http://paperbrains.etsy.com

The illustration above was designed for us by issue #5’s featured artist, Paul Johnson, who also illustrated the front cover especially for PAPERBRAINS, and who features in an in-depth interview inside.

At last! A preview of issue #5. The gorgeous front cover was designed especially for PAPERBRAINS by Paul X Johnson, and the issue goes on sale at the beginning of May.

It’s been a long Winter, but we’re coming out of hibernation with this issue bursting full of the art, photography and writing that we love to showcase!

Issue #3 is titled ‘Hyperchromania’ after its intense explosion of colour throughout. This issue celebrates summer through illustration and photography. Jinx in the Sky shares the inspiration behind her iconic paintings, as well as illustration from Danny Brito, Steph Says Hello and many, many more. Lomographs and Polaroids also feature, as well as a gorgeous grown-up colouring in titled ‘Unicorn Birds’ and a recipe for mind bendingly bright rainbow cupcakes!

Issue #2 ‘Darkness and Light’

Issue #2 is now printed, packaged and ready to roll, available from our Etsy store or by emailing PAPERBRAINS@gmail.com.

So what’s inside? Gorgeous illustrations from Caitlin Shearer, Eveline Tarunadjaja, Roman Bloodless and Speak Cryptic. Plus the rebellious body-painting works of sixties inspired photographer Kelly Doak. There’s also an in-depth interview with bestselling author Toby Litt exploring the dark side of childhood in his previous novels, and an extract from his newest novel KING DEATH, due for release at the end of this month. Plus so much more, including more poetry, art, photography and an article on the Dark Mountain Project and what it means for authors and artists alike.

Here’s a sneak peak of the front cover for Issue #2 ‘Darkness and Light’, due to be in our hands on 19th May. In this issue, we’ve gone for a darker feel - there’s something a little creepy about it… and to strike a good balance we’ve included some dazzlingly cheery artworks too!

The iconic cover was made by Kelly Doak, and there’s more of her work inside. We were lucky enough to interview prize-winning author Toby Litt, and even have an extract of his new novel.

PLUS: more illustration, poetry, photography and art from all over the world.

The first run of Issue #1 is officially sold out!

Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a success. Don’t worry if you missed it, there’ll be reprints coming soon. In the mean time, Issue #2 has been sent off to print and will be up on Etsy in two weeks time (more details of what you can find in Issue #2 to come shortly).

Issue #1, ‘BETA’

Here it is! The first evarrr issue of PAPERBRAINS!

The gorgeous cover photo comes from the wonderfully talented Sofia Ajram, who is this issue’s featured photographer, and there are a load more of her fabulous photographs inside.

So what can you expect from our first ever issue? Well, on top of the gorgeous photography mentioned above there are pages and pages full of beautiful illustrations, inventive embroidery, three short stories, a basic how-to on kitsch and cutieful handmade cards, an in-depth article on Lomography (as well as even MORE photography from Lomo-users), a painting, clay octopi… OH! and a colouring-in for grown-ups.
